Take That, Pink Floyd!

Flying inflated pigs are so 1977.  Proving that they are indeed the all-time, undisputed, without-a-peer, most-pretentious-band-from-a-country-that-speaks-English-with-an-accent, U2 is currently touring with a giant four-legged pink crab. Rumor has it that Bono upon returning to the UK, Bono will attempt to fly the crab over Battlesea Power Station, provided he can get a release signed by Charles Widmore.

A Brass Figlagee with Bronze Oak-Leaf Palm will be awarded to the first faithful reader leaving a comment correctly explaining why Charles Widmore was included in the above chain of pop culture references. [UPDATE: That one has been solved; see Clare's comment below. But what about...] And excelsior to anyone who knows about brass figlagees!

  1. Charles Widmore is a British Industrialist on LOST. Did I win? Were you looking for something more?

  2. That's correct, Jeff. But what is his connection to something else in my post? That's what I'm looking for.

  3. Darlton (Lost Executive Producers) said that the series would end at a geographical location "somewhere just outside the crab nebula". There is some scant crab iconography in lost - eg. the vent door!

  4. Oh and Battersea Power Station had a "Widmore Construction" sign on it!

  5. Crab nebula? Nice, but what a stretch...

    But wait!

    ding ding ding ding ding!

Yes, the Battersea Power Station, seen on the cover of Pink Floyd's Animals album, was also in the background of a scene in an early season of Lost. Alert fans discerned that there was a large banner hanging from the station, and finally figured out that it said "Widmore Construction." We would not meat the infamous Charles Widmore for some time after that.

Congratulations, Clare! You win the Brass Figlagee with Bronze Oak-Leaf Palm, and we will award it to you as soon as we figure out what it is.

Now, still a mystery left unsolved: what is the pop culture origin of that award?
